Summary:

The Critical Care Technician works under the direction of a licensed nurse assisting nursing staff with direct patient care, admissions, mobilizing, and transferring. The Critical Care Technician assists or performs testing according to the physician and nursing direction in compliance with validation.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Functions as the nursing EDT to patients, families, external customers, internal customers, and staff.

  • Assists nursing with turning, mobilizing, and transferring patients, and assists with accu-cecks after validation.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the location and use of basic and special equipment and returns equipment to appropriate area following patient use. Performs equipment and supply monitoring and set-up and cleans designated equipment.

  • Performs Health Unit Coordinator functions as workload permits.

  • Demonstrates ability to set up sterile table for invasive line insertion and properly care for and assemble necessary instruments and supplies, and assists physician using sterile technique. Primes hemodynamic tubings for insertion and scheduled changes.

  • Stocks and monitors bedside cart, unit supply inventory, orders and restocks. Participates in measuring and monitoring Quality Indicators and outcome, as directed.

  • Obtains pertinent information from Patient Care Coordinator, charge nurse, or staff nurse throughout the shift. Completes all required documentation.

  • Performs testing procedures according to Physician and nursing direction, in compliance with validations, i.e., ECG, bedside glucose testing, collection of non-blood specimens, etc.

  • Transports/transfers patients within the unit, hospital or outside of the hospital, and coordinates this with appropriate personnel according to standard operating procedures. Assists with patient admit and prepares patient room.

  • Assists to meet the patients and family needs. Completes service recovery and follow up. Advises charge nurses, Supervisors or Manager of unsatisfactory outcomes and patient concerns.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Certification:

  • Nurse Aide | North Dakota Department of Health | Within 4 Months of Start Date | HR Primary Sources

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) | American Heart Association (AHA) | Within 90 days of Start Date | Learning Management System

This position requires proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to ensure effective communication in the workplace and with patients, families, and team members.
