Summary:

The Point of Care Coordinator facilitates and coordinates Point of Care testing activities throughout the health system by training staff, maintaining procedures and developing quality control and quality assurance programs. The Coordinator evaluates and implements new Point of Care tests and instruments and ensures that Point of Care testing and processes meets all applicable regulatory standards. This position serves as a liaison between Point of Care testing sites and the laboratory.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Facilitates and coordinates Point of Care Testing activities throughout the health system, from the initial request to initiate Point of Care testing through implementation, and provides continuous oversight and monitoring of activities. Provides technical expertise and guidance to Point of Care testing staff.

  • Writes, monitors, and revises policies and procedures for all areas of responsibility in the Point of Care Testing program. Ensures policies and procedures are performed as written.

  • Develops and manages Point of Care staff training and competency assessments. Maintains documentation and records.

  • Evaluates, validates, and implements new Point of Care tests and instruments as required, with input and support from Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, and Laboratory Medical Director.

  • Develops and maintains a quality control and quality assurance program for the Point of Care testing sites. Reviews quality control and proficiency testing results and compliance with quality assurance indicators. Communicates with and/or educates testing personnel when corrective action is needed and organizes and maintains all appropriate records.

  • Ensures that Point of Care testing procedures and processes meet all applicable regulatory requirements and standards.

  • Serves as a liaison between Point of Care testing sites and the laboratory; promotes positive communication and teamwork.

  • Collaborates with Supervisor in development of goals, and actively participates in achieving positive outcomes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Certifications:

  • Professional Licensure (MLS, MT, CLS) | North Dakota Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice | Prior to Start Date | HR Primary Sources

  • Professional Certification (MLS, MT, CLS) | Multiple Issuers | Within 12 Months of Start Date | HR Primary Sources

  • Acceptable certifying agencies: ASCP, AAB, AMT and NCA (Must certify in one)
