Coding ManagerEssential Job Functions:
Directs and oversees daily operations of the medical coding department, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant assignment of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
Manages, coaches, and develops coding staff through recruitment, onboarding, performance management, education, and professional development initiatives.
Monitors coding productivity, quality, and coding lag metrics, implementing process improvements to optimize operational efficiency and financial performance.
Conducts routine coding audits and quality reviews to ensure compliance with federal, state, payer, and organizational coding guidelines and regulations.
Collaborates with providers, CDI specialists, HIM, Revenue Integrity, Patient Financial Services, and other stakeholders to improve documentation quality and coding accuracy.
Analyzes coding-related data, trends, denials, and reimbursement impacts to identify opportunities for revenue optimization and risk reduction.
Develops, maintains, and enforces coding policies, procedures, and standard work processes that support regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Serves as a subject matter expert on coding regulations, reimbursement methodologies, payer requirements, and industry best practices, providing education and guidance to leadership and clinical teams.
Partners with compliance and audit teams to investigate coding concerns, resolve discrepancies, and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
Leads strategic initiatives related to coding technology, workflow automation, artificial intelligence tools, and system optimization to enhance coding accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
