Essential Functions:
1. Perform inspection on new and existing installations on electrical; verify completeness of installation, quality of workmanship and recommend revisions to existing installations; issue Stop Work Orders as delegated.
2. Approve new installations and equipment for connection to utility services; disconnect utility services to existing code-violating or unsafe installations and equipment.
3. Maintain daily records of inspections performed and corrective actions taken; prepare a variety of reports on activities and operations; maintain permanent records, diagrams and as-built drawings.
4. Confer with and advise architects, engineers, contractors, utility companies, other code officials and the general public in the field and office; explain and interpret code requirements and restrictions. Notify appropriate contractors of licensing requirements; issue written examinations and renewal of licenses as required.
5. Examine plans and specifications of new construction additions and alterations to residential and commercial buildings to determine compliance with the provisions of codes, ordinances and regulations.
6. Review new codes and ordinances for electrical systems; prepare code adopting ordinances.
7. Review and evaluate equipment, materials and methods used for installation procedures.
8. Act as official department representative within assigned trade area; respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Participate in public speaking engagements and presentations relative to assigned trade area at meetings and events.
9. Compute and collect fees for various permits, hook-ups and connections; complete, issue and update permits as necessary.
10. Attend and participate in City, State and professional board meetings and committees; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in assigned trade field.
11. Resolve inspection issues and concerns raised between outside parties; meet with involved parties to review and confirm issues, make recommendations to resolve concerns.
12. Investigate complaints and concerns from the general public within assigned trade area; explain applicable code requirements; determine appropriate corrective action to achieve code compliance.
13. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required by department leadership.
