DEFINITION

To reduce the mosquito population and mosquito-borne diseases in the community through comprehensive mosquito control management practices. Treating local ponds, coolies, and other standing waters where mosquitos love to breed. - Day Shifts

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES --Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

  1. Operate Mosquito control Equipment.
  • Will be trained to operate ground spraying (ULV) and larviciding equipment.
  • Must be able to drive a pickup and all terrain vehicles.
  • Must be able to operate basic mechanical tools.
  • Must be able to perform basic service and maintenance on equipment.
  1. Record keeping.
  • Record all activity at each larvae site.
  • Record larva number and larva stage at each site.
  • Record chemical use at each site.
  • Identify, record, and report data of adult mosquito population as collected.
  1. Physical duties.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting.
  • 95% of work is outdoors.
  • May come in contact with various weeds.
  • Noise level is moderate to high.
  • Exposure to low toxicity level chemicals.
  • Must be able to walk with a 60lb. backpack sprayer for an extended period.
  • Must wear proper safety equipment while applying chemicals (i.e. respirator, gloves, Tyvek suit, goggles, ear protection).
  1. A work week is approximately 40 hours- usually 10 hours per day Monday-Thursday 6:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.
  2. During city-wide evening ground spraying operations, work hours will be adjusted. Evening ground spray operations occur from approximately 7:00p.m. to 12:00a.m. Weekend work as needed.
  3. Perform other job-related work as assigned.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Must be at least 18 years of age, have good communication skills. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the public and other employees.

Education or Training:

High school diploma or GED

License or Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
