Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field preferred

Qualifications: Tutoring or classroom teaching experience preferred. Adaptable, resourceful, and solution-oriented. Proficient technology skills. Excellent organization, and both verbal and technology- based communication skills. Understanding of adolescent development preferred. Strong background in language arts and/or mathematics preferred.

Job Goal: The main role of the is to provide online tutoring services across a broad spectrum of courses to high school students enrolled full time at the Grand Forks Virtual High School.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan and deliver tutoring services through an online platform (Google Meet or Zoom) to full time virtual high school students requesting academic support, with or without accommodations designated by an individual educational plan (IEP).

  • Provide both direct support and role modeling around problem-solving skills, resource finding, etc. to build both student content skill and academic independence.

  • Monitor students’ progress and communicate with the mentor-teacher and online manager if students are not making progress or engaging in assigned tutoring sessions.

  • Collaborate with virtual high school staff for the purpose of increasing student achievement.

  • Track data around student participation rates, topics discussed, and progress.

  • Participate in building and district professional development related to role.

  • Participate in intervention-based problem solving team meetings when requested.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Occasionally may need to lift up to fifty (50) lbs; reaching, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling within the classroom.

The employee may encounter situations where students are physically aggressive and/or verbally abusive. This may require physical interaction (using strategies acquired through de-escalation and restraint training) between the employee and student. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person. May be directly responsible for the safety, well-being and/or output of students.

Terms of Employment: Nine (9) months, academic school year
