Purpose of Position

The mission of the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is to provide excellent and collaborative education, scholarship, and service to advance human well-being for all, with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations.

The CNPD is comprised of three departments: Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Social Work. The CNPD is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor for our Nutrition & Dietetics department.

The Assistant Professor will carry out UND's tripartite mission with responsibilities in research, teaching and service. The Assistant Professor is expected to work collaboratively with department faculty to achieve the mission of the department through effective teaching and advising, impactful research and valuable service endeavors. The Assistant Professor is directly responsible for teaching and advising assignments, research productivity and service commitments. This tenure-track position is a 9-month appointment that is renewed subject to an annual review. There may be opportunities for a separate summer appointment subject to department needs and funding.

This position requires an on-campus, in person presence at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • 40% - Research
    • Maintain an active, productive research agenda resulting in professional presentations and peer-reviewed publications
    • Obtain grant funding to advance scholarship
  • 20% - Service to the department, college, university and/or profession
    • Continued professional development through professional membership and training
  • 40% - Teaching
    • Instruction of 12-16 teaching credits per academic year
    • Student advisement, graduate students
    • Program assessment data recording and reporting
    • Participate in strategic and programmatic planning
    • Teaching assignment will vary depending on departmental needs. For the 2025-2026 academic year, a proposed teaching assignment may be:
      • N&D 494, Research in Nutrition & Dietetics
      • N&D 325, Nutrition Through the Life Cycle (2 sections)
      • N&D 441, Nutritional Biochemistry
      • N&D 260, Principles of Foods & Food Science

Required Competencies

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Skilled with interprofessional collaboration

  • Ability to adhere to accreditation expectations
  • Performs with a high degree of self-direction and motivation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in nutrition, human nutrition or closely related field
  • At least one graduate degree in human nutrition or dietetics
  • Evidence of scholarly accomplishment
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
