Purpose of Position
The College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is comprised of the departments of Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Social Work. For this position, the Nutrition & Dietetics department is seeking a tenured faculty member to additionally serve as the department chair.
The mission of the CNPD is to provide excellent and collaborative education, scholarship, and service to advance human well-being for all, with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations.
The mission of the department of Nutrition & Dietetics is to provide exceptional, culturally aware, and collaborative education, experiences, and scholarship that advance well-being through nutrition for all.
CHAIR: The role of a department chair is to provide leadership and support for members of the department in carrying out its mission. The department chair seeks to create a community for learning that includes the department faculty, students and the broader community of practice. The department chair also encourages and supports the faculty in teaching, research, advising and service activities.
FACULTY: The applicant will have a separate faculty appointment within the N&D department and will carry out UND's tripartite mission with responsibilities in research, teaching and service in addition to the administrative role as department chair. This position is expected to work collaboratively with department faculty to achieve the mission of the department through effective teaching and advising, impactful research, and valuable service endeavors. This position is for either an Associate Professor or Full Professor with tenure in the department of Nutrition & Dietetics, subject to approval by the both the University and the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education. This is a 12-month appointment.

This position requires an on-campus, in person presence at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.
Duties & Responsibilities
40% - Research
Maintain an active, productive research agenda
Substantial secured external grant funding
30% - Administration as department chair
Academic program responsibilities including (but not limited to):
Fostering interaction and collaboration in the department
Fostering community engagement with clinical partners and others
Mentoring new faculty in the department
Oversee coordination of student recruitment and admission
Evaluation of current programs as well as program development and new program creation
Oversee curricular development
Lead reaffirmation process and monitor accreditation status
Oversee preparation of class schedules, handbooks, marketing materials, etc.
Personnel responsibilities including (but not limited to):
Address and monitor performance concerns
Coordinate and conduct evaluation process for faculty
Appoint temporary faculty as well as GTAs and GRAs
Assist faculty with professional development
Share or recognize faculty accomplishments
Resources including (but not limited to):
Manage departmental budgets and provide input for budget review meetings
Provide input on distribution of scholarships
Work with the Dean regarding long-term planning
20% - Service to the department, college or university
10% - Teaching
Effort allocation reserved to teach one 3 credit course during the 2026-2027 academic year, including student advisement

Minimum Requirements
Doctoral degree in nutrition, human nutrition or closely related field
At least one graduate degree in nutrition or dietetics
Evidence of scholarly accomplishment
Teaching in a higher education
Two years of administrative experience
Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Experience in curriculum development and online teaching
Interdisciplinary experience
Experience in program accreditation
A proven record of fund-raising, grant-writing, and/or community engagement
Registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN/RD)
Ability to qualify for licensure in ND and MN
