Purpose of Position
This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Compare tornadic environments, including instability and wind shear, between highly- and weakly-tornadic tropical cyclones using dropsonde observations.
- Present results at informal research group meetings, to Atmospheric Sciences students and faculty, and/or at professional conferences.
- Document and archive code and figures produced during the project for future researchers to expand on.
Required Competencies
- Basic understanding of physical environments favoring both tropical cyclones and tornadoes.
- Data analysis and computer programming proficiency using Python, MATLAB, or an equivalent language.
- Experience with technical writing and reading peer-reviewed scientific literature.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be majoring in Atmospheric Sciences
- Must have completed ATSC 270 (Computer Concepts in Meteorology) and ATSC 350 (Atmospheric Thermodynamics)
- Successful completion of criminal history background check.

- Currently enrolled in ATSC 493 (Senior Project II)
