Salary/Position Classification

  • $18.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 10 hours per week
  • 100% Remote Work Availability: No
  • Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): No

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Investigate the climatology and formation of tropical cyclones in the Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace (IPSL) climate model, with an emphasis on African easterly waves
  • Present results at informal research group meetings, to Atmospheric Sciences students and faculty, and/or at professional conferences
  • Attend monthly meetings of the NOAA Model Diagnostics Task Force (MDTF) via Google Meet, and monthly meetings with collaborators from Penn State University

Required Competencies

  • Basic understanding of controls on tropical cyclone climatology, including formation, structure, and intensity
  • Data analysis and computer programming proficiency using Python, MATLAB, or an equivalent language
  • Experience with technical writing and reading peer-reviewed scientific literature

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be majoring in Atmospheric Sciences
  • Must have completed ATSC 270 (Computer Concepts in Meteorology) and ATSC 350 (Atmospheric Thermodynamics)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in ATSC 550 (Tropical Meteorology)
