- This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.
Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to provide support to undergraduate and graduate students.
For undergraduate students: provide undergraduate academic advisement for undergraduate aerospace students (majors and minors) and advise students in the graduate programs. This position will work very closely with our current students on a walk-in basis and scheduled meetings. Primary duties include all advising-related matters for current and potential students and responsibility for graduation audits. This position will be responsible working with students on academic warning as well as working with UND retention issues. This person will utilize campus connection, degree map, perceptive content, and hawk central. Other duties include assist with the advisor portion of the summer orientation program and attend graduation ceremonies
For graduate students: primary duties are related to working with students in the Atmospheric Sciences, Aviation, ESSP, & Space Studies programs including advising students during the admission process and assisting with course selection once admitted. Additional duties include assisting with recruiting of graduate students and working closely with the graduate directors to assist in tracking student success.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Advising undergraduate students
- Provide academic, degree program and career advising for current on campus and online undergraduate aerospace programs including knowledge of all degree requirements.
- Understand needs of various student populations.
- Advise incoming aerospace students during the summer orientation program in coordination with UND’s Student Academic Success & Career Engagement.
- Meet with students and be available for walk-ins at the Aerospace Success Center
- Participation in assessment of advising.
- Understand and accurately communicate policies and procedures to advisees.
- Respond to telephone and email inquiries regarding the aerospace programs and procedures.
- Work in cooperation with UND’s Student Academic Success & Career Engagement and Admissions Office.
- Assist in auditing students’ progress towards graduation.
- Understand and accurately communicate resources available to students and refer to these services when needed.
- Assist in administering the Academic Intervention and Recovery (AIR) Plan for students having academic difficulties.
- Use of Campus Connection for effective advising.
- Use of Hawk Central for effective scheduling and tracking of student success.
- Understand student use of Blackboard, Handshake and PathwayU for advising purposes.
- Be familiar with functions of the Aviation Information Management System (AIMS).
- Be familiar with all available online resources for effective advising.
- Maintain student academic records through Hawk Central.
- Professional Advisor for Aerospace Graduate Programs
- Work with Atmospheric Sciences, Aviation, Earth System Science & Policy, and Space Studies programs including advising students during the admission process.
- Communicate instructions for navigating UND processes and resources (ex. School of Graduate Studies forms, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Tech Support).
- Discuss appropriate course sequencing, as well as assist with registration.
- Maintain frequent communication with the advisees in order to increase retention.
- Serve as the initial advisor for JDO graduate programs, assisting with course selection once admitted.
- Assist all students with necessary forms for the School of Graduate Studies.
- Assist with Graduate Recruitment Efforts
- Communicate with leads which are received from admissions/graduate directors.
- Monitor leads in the CRM and assist individuals through the admissions funnel.
- Schedule and execute campus and off-campus recruiting efforts.
- Attend departmental graduate events when possible.
- Support JDO Graduate Directors and Faculty
- Monitor student progress and maintain student records and tracking.
- Monitor registration for active students, help process withdrawals, readmissions and leave of absence requests.
- Monitor enrollment and transcripts for repeats, inactive records, students at the 7-year limit and continuing enrollment.
- Maintain student records and tracking in centralized system.
- Serve as a contributing member of JDO and University of North Dakota Staff
- Contribute to an optimistic and enthusiastic workplace that challenges and energizes staff.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in any field.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in education, customer, and/or client services.
- Must include cover letter with application.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Academic Advising
- Experience in using advising tools (e.g. Hawk Central, Degree Map, and Campus Connection)
- Experience with UND’s undergraduate programs including essential studies, as well as JDO’s graduate programs.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Graduate course work/degree attainment.
