- 40 hours per week
- This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.
Purpose of Position
- Foster a welcoming, student-centered environment throughout Chester Fritz Library and library branches during all hours, particularly evening and weekend hours.
- Provide walk-in public services during evening and weekend hours in collaboration with library colleagues
- Perform opening and closing procedures for evening and weekend hours.
- Build a strong service team with full-time colleagues and student employees.
- Mentor student employees.
- Support outreach events during weekends and evenings in collaboration with CFL colleagues.
- Assist patrons with technology needs, including computer access, printing, scanning, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Handle facility-related issues and coordinate with appropriate departments as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Public Services, Building Operations, & Patron Engagement
- Manage circulation services during shifts, including materials checkout/return, renewals, and holds.
- Perform opening and closing procedures for evening and weekend hours.
- Assist patrons with technology needs, including computer access, printing, scanning, and equipment troubleshooting
- Monitor and maintain the safety and security of library facilities and resources.
- Collaborate with other staff to ensure seamless service transitions.
- Respond to directional and informational inquiries with professionalism and enthusiasm.
- Provide basic reference assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Facilitate referrals to research librarians.
- Handle facility-related issues and coordinate with appropriate departments as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, incidents, and service statistics.
- Ensure compliance with library, university, and system policies procedures.
Student Employee Supervision & Mentoring
- Supervise and mentor student employees during evening and weekend shifts in a team-based learning environment that prioritizes the development by student employees of workplace and leadership skills.
- Provide training on library procedures, customer service, reference assistance standards, and technology systems.
- Foster professional development opportunities and create a supportive learning environment.
- Conduct regular check-ins and provide constructive feedback to student staff.
- Coordinate student employee schedules and coverage for evening/weekend operations.
Student Engagement & Programming
- Develop and implement programs that encourage student engagement with library services, spaces, collections, and programs.
- Create welcoming initiatives for UND students that fosters a sense of belonging, supports academic success, and nurtures overall well-being.
- Identify opportunities to connect students with appropriate library resources and services.
- Engage with and provide support for library outreach efforts and special events, particularly during evening, night, and weekend hours.
- Mentor and provide visible leadership for Ask Us student employees as they develop their comfort and capacity for creating positive experiences for all patrons.
Oversee and troubleshoot library technology lending program and Knowledge Commons computing resources during evenings and weekends.
- Assist patrons in developing technology competencies and effectively using Knowledge Commons computing resources.
- Work with Ask Us student employees to develop strong technology competencies, including the skills to educate patrons on technology use while providing optimal customer service.
- Assist patrons in the use of in-house and loanable library technology.
- Report technology-related issues to appropriate departments as needed.
Assess user experiences in the library at night and on weekends
- Gather usage statistics for services, building, and technology use.
- Assess the physical setting needs of students regarding furniture, food and drink options, technology needs, etc. and report findings and potential solutions to library leadership, as appropriate.
- Recommend changes or new policies to improve the services and the facility.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience in customer service
- Demonstrated supervisory or mentoring experience
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a library or knowledge of library & information science.
- Experience with circulation module of an Integrated Library System.
- Experience with security policies and procedures.
- General knowledge of UND policies and procedures.
- Building supervision - ability to identify and report problems
